The Night Stalker

By Robert Bryndza.

Woo hoo! DCI Erika Foster has done it again!
This time even better than before!
This is the second book in the series about Detective Erika Foster, and I Liked it even more than the first.
So Erika is trying to figure out who is a mysterious Night Stalker who has killed three people one after another in similar pattern. There's no obvious link between the victims. They don't seem to have enemies as such, those who'd wish their death bad enough.
The killings are quite brutal. The killer is smart and seems to be untraceable.

Before Erika gets on the killer's tail, Erika's colleague and friend forensic expert, Isaac Strong, is arrested on suspicion of the murder of his boyfriend...
Did he do it? Is he connected to there murders? Can he be THE Night Stalker?... is he working alone?...
Is Erika going to get it right? Or can friendship cloud her professional judgement?...

The business in Lewisham Row Police Station goes as usual. Erika is trying to put herself up for a promotion. But as usual, there are plenty of those who doubt her abilities. Will she get the promotion?...

The best thing that I liked about this book is that we see more of Erika being not just a detective, but a woman. She blushes, she gets frightened, she gets beautifully emotional. And this brings her closer to the readers.
"She thought of Mark, and forced herself to picture his face. To keep him alive in her memory. She'd been so close to returning Peterson's kiss, but Mark had pulled her back. Part of her longed for a man in her bed, a warm body to hold her, but right now it was a step too far."

Will Erika let her past to be eventually stay in the past and let herself make one step into the future?...

I really liked this book! Robert Bryndza seemingly tackled some imperfections that he had had in the first book, The Girl in the Ice.
The plots in the second book is much better built. It is more elegant, less obvious (though I wish he did not give away the Night Stalker's identity to the reader so quick and so easy, but even though, the book still kept me gripped).
The development of the story, the characters, the descriptions were quite good. I mean, really good. There was no moment where I'd got bored or tired of the same thing.
There is no overload of graphic gore details, but it keeps the suspense going and the fear is creeping along...

This is definitely a book to go for if you like well written thrillers.
I am looking forward to reading the next book in the series!
