Last Breath. Detective Erika Foster #4.

by Robert Bryndza.

Two days i could not put the book down and kept reading at every opportunity I got.
I just had to find out how all this was going to end!

I will not go into the plot and story details, as it is worth reading firsthand. There' s quite a lot happening to Erika. Maybe, even more than usual, which makes the story well packed and eventful. A few unexpected turns, too!
Good suspense, good story twist, a few different lines to follow, all well paced.
What's not to like?

Hmmm... I have to say, it felt at times that the secondary characters were crafted with more detail than the main ones.

The Erika-Peterson storyline felt too subtle to constitute a romantic side to it as such, which was a pity, as I grew fond of both characters and really expected more substance to their relationship this time around. It has also fallen into place rather quick. Yes, there is the that part about Mark... But other than that, nothing else really interfered and it felt too easy. It would be interesting to observe reactions and emotions a bit more. Surely, there could have been other parties interested in Peterson and/or Erika... A bit of competition could be entertaining :))

My other issue with this book, as well as in the Night Stalker, is that the reader is given the key to the mystery too early. Yes, there's a bit of a chase, and the usual "Will they?... Or will they not?..." but it's not same.  You know who it is and what they are anticipating and you know what exactly the police are missing or overlooking and why they can't to put two and two together, so it' kind of takes a bit of the thrill away from the book.

The actual thriller part was interesting and quite well set. It is something that we all know about. The social media, the dangers of exposure of personal details, profiles, etc, etc... The exposure of the predator's preparations, his ground work, and how relatively easy it can all come together and and become a deathly trap for the victims. The realistic set up makes it all the chillier to read.

So overall, yes, a good, gripping read!

    1. Thanks, Lara! Yes, he is great. I think he has pin pointed the main character just perfect, and he definitely has a way of creating an atmosphere.
The next book is on my list and I can't wait to get to it!
